Our Team

Profiles of our most senior staff:

Having obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from Melbourne University, Alex began work over 30 years ago with the world’s largest accounting firm. Experience was then gained from medium and large accounting firms both here and in London.

A desire to provide clients with a wide range of services which assist clients through all stages of life from the cradle to the grave saw Alex start his own accounting practice from scratch in 1996.  Over the years, in-house financial planning and asset finance and mortgage broking options have been added to the group.

Alex’s interest in assisting small business owners is in part genetic as past generations have run a variety of successful businesses going back to one of Bendigo’s largest gold mines. Alex’s father started a furniture business post WW2 that was so renowned for quality that it furnished both the Victorian and Federal Parliament houses.  Small business is in Alex’s blood and which started as early as primary school where he organised grade fund raising fetes and which has seen him run his parent’s dairy farm.

Alex is married with two children.  In addition to family life, Alex enjoys films and most sports with active pursuits including golf, running and cycling.  Alex also has fulfilled a number of community roles and is and has been treasurer of a number of associations.

Paul took over Maggs Reid & Co from his father in law over 35 years ago.  Paul has a keen interest in helping people as evidenced by his five years of service on the CPA Australia’s Public Practice Committee (which included one year as chairman – an unpaid role that would have consumed a day a week) and also served as CPA Australia’s representative on a State Government’s gambling task force.  Paul is also a past recipient of CPA Australia’s Henry Fox Award – an annual award given to a person who has rendered “Outstanding Service to Public Practice in Victoria.”

A father of two, Paul is now a proud grandfather – and part time babysitter.  A keen interest in football is only matched by his interest of playing golf, travelling and socialising with friends.
